Designs were prepared in 1998 by Bruce McCue of McCue Gardens in Wethersfield, and were submitted to the Town Council for their approval in February, 1999. Immediate approval by the Council allowed planning to proceed. Through the good work of the town's Physical Services Division personnel, hedges were removed, unsightly walls were covered with latticework, and the gardens were irrigated to prepare for the planting. On Planting Days in 1999 and 2000 more than 40 volunteers came to plant and mulch the hundreds of perennials that now beautify our Town Hall. Middle School students, young adults and senior citizens all contributed their time to this project. This beautification project continues today through the maintenance and care of the gardens by our Beautification Committee volunteers. |
